Move over spring cleaning - autumn is here
Spring cleaning is a long-standing event that has been around since time immemorial.
However, spring cleaning appears to be turning into a year-round event as people call in the professionals to spruce up their homes later in autumn as well.
According to supermarket chain Tesco, Agust and September are now popular months for a spring clean - with the recent August bank holiday leading the way.
The firm's household products manager Simon Marsden said: "Householders want to start afresh at the end of the holidays after the children have been around the house all summer.
"Our research shows people come back from summer holidays with their batteries recharged, eager to clean up their home."
Recently, Dr Anton de Paiva, a researcher at Imperial College London, highlighted the importance of spring cleaning, claiming that bacteria build-up due to a lack of cleaning can be dangerous.
He said that kitchens in particular were common sources of toxic bacteria and announced that all surfaces - including those in fridges, ovens and freezers should be disinfected on a regular basis to prevent the spread of germs.
