London office's clean design gets it new rating
A new office in London has been awarded the first LEED CI Silver Certification.
Built for architectural firm Gensler, the office is the first workspace of its kind to be certified by this method in the UK, greenbuildingpress.co.uk has reported.
Located in Aldgate House in the centre of the City, the space is now home to all of Gensler's employees, each enjoying their own view thanks to the office's innovative design.
A combination of natural light, open space and energy efficient lighting operated by motion sensors helps keep energy ratings and electricity use low.
Further high-tech design features include low VOC paints, eco-friendly toilet flushes, sustainable wood and the incorporation of Energy Star-rated office equipment.
In related news, scientists at Purdue University in the US claim they can develop coatings which make office and bathroom surfaces self-cleaning.
