Don't let spilled drinks ruin your carpet

It's never easy to clean spilled drinks off your carpet, but there are a number of cleaning solutions and products on the market that help to make the job easier.

The product you should use will depend very much on the nature of the spill. However, with any stain, the first thing you should do is blot up as much of the liquid as possible.

Next, you need to know what material your carpet is made from - the label should determine any limitations to the products you can use. Now, if your carpet is particularly expensive, your best bet is to call in the professionals immediately, giving you the best possible chance that the stain can be removed.

If the spill was a coloured liquid, such as red wine, tea, cola and coloured fruit juices, they will also be more difficult to remove.

One method you can use is to combine 1/4 teaspoon of clear, mild liquid dishwashing detergent with water.

You should then blot the stain with the solution, working from the outside towards the middle.
After that, get another bit of clean white cloth, dip it into the water, and apply pressure over the stain.

Repeat the process until the stain is gone. If it's particularly stubborn, you might want to try blotting with vinegar too.

The process is much the same for clear fluids - although these are a little easier to clean up.

What you have to look out for here is that it does not dry into the carpet, or create a water mark.

Therefore, be sure to dry it up thoroughly once you have blotted the stain.

For best results though, you should definitely look into carpet cleaning services offered by professional firms, who can get your carpets looking as good as new in no time.
