Natural cleaners recommended for bathroom fixtures
Domestic cleaners have been advised to wash their bathroom fixtures with natural cleansing agents.
Gunnar Baldwin, water efficiency specialist, is encouraging householders to make their own cleaning products as these are less likely to damage delicate surfaces.
Some chemical cleaners can lead to chipping or tarnishing of porcelain or metal fixtures, according to Mr Baldwin.
A gentle, effective cleaning paste can be made by combining an eighth of a cup of baking soda with a small amount of vegetable-based soap.
Domestic cleaners can keep toilets sparkling by mixing a cup of vinegar with a one quarter cup of baking soda.
This mixture should be left for a few minutes in the bowl before cleaning the toilet and rinsing.
Mr Baldwin told the American Chronicle: "Each of these items can clean high-quality, luxury plumbing products efficiently on their own, but when combined, they become super-strength green cleaners you'll use again and again."
Johnson Cleaners, the UK's largest dry cleaning firm, announced that it has introduced an environmentally-friendly detergent based on sand into its outlets.
