Flooring experts offer cleaning advice - 12/11/2008
Houses could sell more quickly if flooring is in good condition, according to industry experts.
Tips from the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA), published by Napsnet, have been offered to
domestic cleaners so they can properly look after flooring.
The company has urged householders with hardwood floors not to use too much water when cleaning as this could be absorbed causing the wood to swell.
Domestic cleaners should also avoid using detergents which are oil or ammonia-based as this will dull hardwood surfaces.
Vinyl flooring can be easily maintained by using a mild cleaner that contains no abrasives which can cause scratching.
Stains should be removed as quickly as possible from ceramic floors in order to prevent permanent marking.
Detergents to avoid with this flooring include those containing ammonia and bleach.
As a green alternative the WFCA suggests using natural cleaners such as baking soda and vinegar to keep floors sparkling.
