Cleaning companies needed for student abodes - 18/11/2011
More cleaning companies could be needed to spruce up unused buildings that are being converted into student accommodation.
According to marketing director at FreshStart Living Stephanie Sowerby, more derelict properties in city centres are being snapped up by universities and letting agents.
This is because the demand for affordable student homes is growing sharply and disused buildings can be purchased on the cheap. In many cases it is also easier to secure planning permission to convert rundown constructions into student halls.
However, Ms Sowerby added, there is a general lack of funding available to universities and some have even had to sell off sections of their halls of residence in order to raise money.
Cleaning companies also heard that ideal student properties should be centrally located, which means old city centre buildings that are no longer lived in are perfect.
"A property developer can find an unused building in an ideal location and then redevelop it and because it is already built, it cuts out building costs," she remarked.
Bosses at Easyroommate.co.uk recently informed cleaning companies that the demand for student housing will continue to grow in spite of rising tuition fees.
