'Less is more when it comes to cleaning solutions' - 08/03/2010
Domestic cleaners should beware of the amount of cleaning fluid they use as part of their cleaning duties, an expert has warned.
Cleaning specialist Amy Drost said contrary to popular opinion, restraint is best when it comes to using cleaning fluids.
Speaking to the St Joseph News-Press, she pointed out that many people use much too much cleaning fluid when they are cleaning floors in the mistaken belief that greater amounts of cleaning solution equals a deeper clean.
This is not the case however, as most
professional house cleaners will testify, and could possibly end up causing more harm than good.
"People pour a bunch of Pine-Sol in a bucket with water thinking the more they put in, the cleaner the floor is going to get," Ms Drost explained. "Actually it causes more of a chemical build-up on the floor."
She added that there are a number of natural cleaning alternatives commonly found around the house that can be used to clean up stains and spills.
Ordinary vinegar mixed with water is excellent for cleaning windows, while citrus fruits such as lemons and limes provide a highly effective way of shifting dirt and grease.
